Dental Fillings

Dental fillings restore the strength and function of your tooth while preventing any further damage. The decayed or damaged portion of the tooth is carefully removed prior to any filling being put in place. Once the area of the tooth is properly cleaned, a "white dental filling" is placed. We exclusively use white composite or resin material for our patients. Amalgam or "silver fillings" are not recommended by our dentists for several reasons:

  1. Unlike white fillings, silver fillings are hard to miss when you open wide
  2. Some patients are allergic to the metal found in amalgam
  3. Amalgam contains mercury which impacts negatively the environment
Your tooth will be restored to full function returning your smile to optimal condition. We may recommend a filling if your tooth has been damaged by tooth decay or if your tooth suffers from minor fracturing or chipping.

The most important stage of the dental filling procedure in regards to long-term patient comfort is the shaping of the filling. Your new filling must match your bite in order to feel natural. Our dentists take great care in sculpting the filling so that every patient is healthy and happy.
